Polyester Applications:

Polyester used in textiles is either made from polyester fibers, which are spun into threads and then into textiles, or from polyester filament yarns, which are single long continuous lengths of extruded fibers spun into a yarn. Fabric made from polyester can breathe like cotton, gleam and flow like silk, yet protect like wool. The outstanding characteristic of polyester is it's good dimensional stability and fabrics made from it resists wrinkle and tends to spring back into shape when creased. In addition it washes and dries easily & quickly and has minimum care characteristics. Fabrics made from polyester can be either woven, knitted or non-woven. Woven and knitted fabrics are used in fashion fabrics, performance fabrics, Geotextiles, etc. Non-woven fabrics have mainly industrial applications.

Blends of polyester with cotton is most widely used for fashion fabrics. The ability to hold dyes is another favorable feature of polyester that makes it the largest fibre used in apparels.

Performance Fabrics such as fleece fabrics, work wear, waterproof and fireproof wear are used in professions that demand specialized fabrics. These fabrics are treated with special finishes to make them water repellent, fire resistant and wind resistant. Because of its specialized propertires, the Performance Fabrics are also widely used as Sportswear for clothing worn during high energy sports and activities that are performed in extreme hot and cold environments such as bicycling, mountaineering, golf and skiing.

Polyester is an ideal choice for furnishing fabrics because of its good dimensional stability, wrinkle resistance and minimum care characteristics. Automotive interiors and car seat covers are one of the applications of polyester fabrics. Excellent color developing and color depth properties of polyester fibers gives it an edge over other fibers and makes it the most suitable fibre for this application.

Geotextiles are one of the products of the industrial applications of polyester. It is used in road constructions, walls, landfill, roofing etc. The high tenacity of polyester, high modulus and low creep making them ideal for this application.

Non - woven fabrics made from polyester are widely used as insulation material, for linings or as padding material and for hygiene enduse. Polyester fibres are also very widely used in various non-woven manufacturing processes like needle punching, thermo bonding, chemical bonding, spun lace, Air laid etc.

Composites made of 100% polyester fibers are widely used as filtration media. Its layered structure gives excellent tear strength, smooth surface, edge stability and higher filtration efficiencies.
